portrayal of deaths in our music video
the portrayals of death in our music video are not done to glorify violence they are simply there to show audiences what happens on the streets of london on a regulaer basis and make them ask themselves whether "it is suppose to be like this?" we are trying to show the bad side of the violence and display how valuable life is and how it should not be ended so easily. we would like to hope that videos like this would help to stop violence in the future if they were widely displayed in the media rather than videos that show people that commit violent acts as powerful or authoritive.
Editing
Editing our music video has been a very long and hard process. it has taken 10-20 hours but we have managed to get it done and successfully. My main aim whilst editing was to create emotion from the cuts that would add to the emotive lyrics used in the song. i have done this by having shots played for longer than a usual music video, this is done to create almpst a documentary feel to make the audience feel that the story was more real. i have seen that this works from watching the video "runaway" and "ghetto gosepel" where the shots are much longer and i have seen this work well. also i came up with an idea to have a flashback just before the protagonist dies this is also done to portray emotion for the character being brutalised and insinuate that life is short. also the shot where the protagonist first kills somone this is mixed with him holding a knife to show that, it is a flashback and it is something he is thinking about. the chorus is used to portray narrative because it adds to the storyline more than the rapping areas does.

our second location!
this is the area where both killings take place and also where our artist performs lyrics to the song. I chose this area because it is easy to access and it is also a quiet area so there would be no interuptions whilst filming. filming took around 6 hours from 12-6 this was done so the artist could be in the light and the kilings could be in the dark to make them more realistic.

filming/photoshoot graveyard november 28th
on this date we managed to get access to a graveyard this scene was initially going to be used to represent the death of friends and family that the artist is rapping about in the song we have chosen. one problem we had was that it got dark immidiately as soon as we begun filming and we felt uncomfortable filimng around the graves of people we didnt know. we felt this was a bit disrespectful so we decided not to use this in our video and deleted this footage. We also took a picture which we would like to use on the back of our digipak and put titles of songs over and they will be used as they came out fantastic.

Runaway music video analysis
This music video is Kanye west’s 35 minute music video called “runaway” this music video has a deep narrative which is there to keep viewers interacted in his music. At the start of the video Kanye west is driving through the forest alone then a phoenix falls from the sky and he rescues her and takes her home, this then forms into a relationship where he falls in love with the birdlike phoenix. The world we live in cant except her as he takes her to a big dinner and people point out to him that she’s a bird in an awkward way. She cannot take anymore of our world and leaves Kanye to go back to her own. This video is about being individual and outgoing and going against the norms of society as the theme is that everything that is different in our world we try to take it down or change it. This is why there is also a Michael Jackson tribute in the music video as he was unique and different. The deep narrative portrays what Kanye’s album is about in a more clear and visual way to increase understanding of Kanye west views and what his music is about. This relates to what we want to do s we want the viewer to feel the emotion and perspective of our artist in the exact same way that the runaway video does, we have emotive language of death and how the artist wants society to change, and we must do our best to entail this in our video

filiming 20th november
Our group managed to film half of the protagonists journey all in one day! we took time to focus on bedroom shots in which the main character "malaki" writing a letter to his victims greaving mother apologising for what he has done, he takes time to reflect on his life and decision making, and ponders over whether he should be carrying a knife or weapon. also we show his journey through his housing estate on his way to make ammends with the victims mother, and some shots of him on the bus. these shots work well as we managed to envoke emotion and struggle into the video, i think this is a good thing as the audience will feel his pain, personality and views on events that have taken place and about to take place.

Test Shoot - 9/10/10
on our first test shoot of our pop video we filmed the scences of our protagonist in his room, we have also shot the scences when he was in the alley way and he was murdered. we encounted some problems when filming the alley way scene such as it was too dark and the camara could not pick up anything clearly, therefore we have decided to shoot the scene at a brighter time of the day.

Initial Ideas
Our group plans to make a video to the song Broken Silence which is by a group called the So Solid crew, This song is of a london genre called "Grime" but is similar to rap as seen in america. This song is about the struggles of teenage knife crime, Gun crime and death of people they known, we had an idea to have children miming the words of the lyrics of the song in the video, to show that they also witness whats going wrong with these things in society but we realised that this may be hard to replicate as accessing children of a young age that are able to mime all the words affectively would not be easy. So we decided to have a narrative and display how and why these things may happen through a short story, we aim to let the audience gain a relationship with the protangonist by showing his family life, school life and his life outside of crime to make a point that not all situations are caused by heartless youths, but mislead and confused people who dont know what else to do to earn things they aspire to gain. This video will have intertextuality to the film "Bullet boy" as the protagonists younger brother who isnt a part of any crime at all will also find his brothers gun or weapon and it will cause trouble in the younger brothers life. I think this production would be unique as most things about gun crime are from the victims point of iew and you dont always get to see both sides of the story, This also goes against typical insinuations of rap as it has more meaning and is not just about money, cars and girls. Similar to the music video "Stan" by "Eminem" and "Brendas Got A Baby" by "2Pac" These videos are inspirational as they both involve the audience emotionally into the narrative and get the meaning of the song in the strongest way possible.
